Adding Transactions

Manual Entry

Create transactions manually with:
  • Date - when the transaction occurred
  • Account - which account the money came from or went to
  • Payee (Merchant) - who you paid or received money from
  • Category - which envelope to debit or credit
  • Amount - how much
  • Notes - optional details
  • Status - pending or cleared

Automatic Import

When you connect your bank, transactions are imported automatically. Imported transactions include:
  • Smart merchant matching with logo display
  • AI-powered auto-categorization based on your history
  • Duplicate detection to avoid double-counting with manual entries

Review Status

Imported transactions start as Needs Review. This lets you:
  • Verify the category is correct
  • Split transactions across multiple categories
  • Confirm the amount and payee
Once reviewed, mark them as Reviewed to keep your budget clean.

Split Transactions

A single transaction can be split across multiple categories. For example, a grocery store purchase might include:
  • $80 to Groceries
  • $15 to Household Items
  • $5 to Pet Supplies
Each split (called a movement) has its own category and amount.

Transfers

When money moves between your own accounts, use a transfer transaction. Kualia links both sides automatically so:
  • Your total net worth stays accurate
  • Category balances aren’t affected (unless it’s a credit card payment)

Search across all your transactions by payee, category, amount, or notes. Filter by:
